Christopher Stone
Christopher Stone

Chris took over as ABIE President in January 2012.
After leaving University, Chris started working with Pearl & Dean Cinema Advertising, rising through the managerial ranks before moving to Pearl && Dean UK in 1988 as Sales Director.

In 1991 he moved within the Group (the French Multinaltional Vivendi) to Mills & Allen Outdoor as Regional Sales Director. He was transferred to Belgium in 1994 as CEO of the Vivendi Groups Interests in Belgium including Belgoposter Outdoor, Claude Publicité and other media companies.After the purchase of the groups outdoor division by JC Decaux in 1999, Chris joined RMB International, a multimedia sales house, as COO responsible for 25 countries.

In June 2001 he bought his own outdoor company, Dewez, where he still works employing over 40 people.

Originally from Sandy Bay, in Hobart Tasmania, Chris also played AFL Australian Rules Football with St. Kilda and First Grade cricket with St. Kilda, Sth Melbourne and Manly.

He and his Belgian wife have 4 children.


Dave DemetriusDavid Demetrius

David founded and is the President of the European Management Development Institute (Emadin), which specialises in the provision of training, mentoring and coaching of board directors and senior executives in all aspects of management. He also consults on the implementation of social media tools into organisations to enable collaboration and engagement.

Dave has over 30 years experience in management of and consultancy to companies (from SMEs to large multinationals).

With a colleague, he founded a group of companies specialising in project management and consultancy services for complex or large Information Technology programmes and projects, building it to annual sales of over €100 million with approximately 500 professional staff by the time he sold his shareholding in the group. He is a fully qualified accountant and has degrees in mathematics and business as well as being a fellow of several professional institutes.  He is currently completing his thesis for the degree of Doctor of Business Administration.

David speaks good French and Dutch and has a working knowledge of Spanish and German as well as some Italian.  He is married with two children and lives in Brussels.

Nicola Gordon-Smith
Deputy Head of Mission to Belgium, 
Australian Embassy

Ms Gordon-Smith is a career public servant with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. She has been Deputy Head of Mission in Brussels since September 2013.

Ms Gordon-Smith has previously served in Brussels (2000-03). Prior to taking up her current position in Brussels Ms Gordon-Smith was Chief of Staff to the Trade Minister. She has also served as a senior adviser to the Prime Minister. In addition to her time as Assistant Secretary, Trade Competitiveness and Advocacy Branch, she has had senior roles in the departments of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.

Ms Gordon-Smith holds a Bachelor of Arts from the Australian National University. She and her partner have three children.

Andrew Fotheringham
Andrew Fotheringham

Andrew was with DHL for 28 years in the Middle East, Africa, the UK and Europe, where he most recently managed charters and airline alliances for DHL Aviation in Brussels.

Andrew joined the Diplomat Group in 2011 as Managing Director, Europe, based at Diplomat Freight Services Ltd. (DFS), London. He has overall responsibility for the UK operation which offers global cargo and passenger charter services together with 24 hour rapid response AOG services. A Brussels office is planned to open early next year.

Diplomat Freight Services is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Diplomat Group which was founded in 1981 for the express purpose of providing charter services to the government, commercial and private sectors. The company also specialises in rapid response and disaster relief services as well as logistical, emergency, communications, construction and military support.

Dianne Koningen
Dianne Koningen

Dianne joined ABIE as an active Committee Member in September 2008, having moved to Bruges in early 2005.

Born in Queensland, Dianne’s business experience there spanned a diverse range of activities, from a managerial position at Estee Lauder Corporation to running her own business in the fashion industry.

Moving to Melbourne In 1992, Dianne immersed herself in some key social entrepreneurial initiative, as a founding Board Member of ‘Before it’s too Late’ a national project linking business and community to youth support organisations; and as a executive member of In-Alignment, a leading edge organisation working with businesses who wished to focus on the triple bottom line, to incorporate contribution to society.

Five years later Dianne and artist husband Svein Koningen, an Abstract Expressionist, moved back to Queensland successfully establishing the Svein Koningen Studio Gallery in Noosa Heads.

Moving to Europe in early 2005, Dianne & Svein re-establsihed their Studio Gallery in the centre of the very beautiful medieval city, Brugge.

With her prime focus on Arts Management of Svein Koningen, Dianne’s specialised areas of expertise are Communications & Social Networking, Portfolio Management and Curatiing, Web design & Management, and Design Consultancy and Sales.


Kevin Bradley

Kevin Bradley

Kevin Bradley is the Managing Director for Energy, Environment and Natural Resources at Irish-owned public affairs and communications company, Hume Brophy. Kevin is an experienced public policy and regulatory affairs consultant with more than 23 years’ experience at the EU and international level in a variety of positions ranging from the European Commission to international trade associations and consultancy.  His specialist areas include energy, environment and resources policies. He currently works for a range of clients in the energy, commodities, processing and consumer goods sectors. Kevin was formally President of the Nickel Institute and Director General of the Alliance for Beverage Cartons and the Environment. A biologist by training, Kevin is a graduate of Dublin University with a Ph.D in Limnology.



Dave Deruytter
Dave Deruytter

Dave has been the National Head of Expatriate & Non-resident Services at ING Bank in Belgium since 2000.

His present affinity with expats grew naturally. Dave was born in the US whilst his parents were expats there. Preceding his present post, he took the plunge himself and moved to Tokyo for almost five years in two expatriations with an interruption of 1 year. Living in the East was often challenging but certainly fulfilling as witnessed by his taking on an additional 3.5 year posting in Beijing, also for ING, a few years later.

He now puts his experience in International Mobility, and knowledge of banking and insurance services, at the service of Expats moving to, or living in, Belgium


Ann Ramaekers
Ann Ramaekers

Ann has 21 years of airline experience, including 12 years at management level. She worked for PGA-Portugalia Airlines since its launch in the Benelux in 1993. In 2005, Ann started up Etihad Airways in the Benelux market and currently still holds the position of General Manager Belgium at Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates.

She is board member of the Board of Airline Representatives in Belgium and joined the ABIE committee in 2013.

Ann’s excellent performances in the Civil Aviation have been rewarded twice by the “Royal Institute of Labour Albert I”.

Ann lives together with her son in Eppegem.



Anthony Scott Houghton
Anthony Scott Houghton

Originally from Townsville North Queensland, Anthony and his French wife Edith have been residents of Brussels for the past 21 years.  Arriving in 1993 to open the Conrad Hotel on Avenue Louise as Banquet Manager and is presently Director of Supply Chain for Starwood Hotel Brussels.  The International business, cultural and lifestyle scene of Brussels, plus Belgium’s central location in Europe have made it an enjoyable place to live and raise a family. 

A Graduate in Economics from James Cook University, travel and a career in hotels was more appealing so after various positions in Australia, England, Switzerland and France working with Hilton, Hyatt and Inter Continental, Anthony’s travels led him and the family to Brussels.

A member of ABIE Belgium for many years, Anthony joins the board this year where he hopes to offer assistance in organizing memorable events for promoting Australia and Australian Business in Belgium through his many contacts in the local community.  A keen sportsman, Anthony also enjoys travel and cooking.
